Captain Hook
MEDIUM: Original Production Drawing
IMAGE SIZE: 12.5" x 15.5
YEAR: 1953
SKU: CCV1961
ABOUT THE IMAGE: This final drawing of Captain Hook was created by a Disney animator in the production of the animated feature, and a cel painting was made directly from it. This scene appears in the climactic struggle between Hook and Peter Pan aboard the pirate's ship. The pirate pursues Peter Pan into the rigging, daring Peter to face him: "Ha ha ha, you wouldn’t dare fight old Hook man to man. You’d fly away like a cowardly sparrow." Their duel on one of the ship's spars spells the end of Captain Hook—at least for the moment—for at the fight's climax he plunges into the sea to be pursued by a very hungry crocodile.
This is the villainous Captain Hook, wielding his sword, narrowly focused on bringing Peter Pan to close quarters. Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas wrote of Captain Hook in The Disney Villain—"His strength was in his scheming, for that type of insidious planning showed he was thinking and the thought process is the animator's way of giving life to the character."

ABOUT:
Tom Everhart is a celebrated American painter whose work uniquely bridges the worlds of fine art and popular culture through his exclusive use of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters. Initially trained at Yale School of Art and later mentored by Schulz himself, Everhart transitioned from traditional illustration and architectural rendering to a bold, expressive painting style after a life-altering battle with cancer in the late 1980s.
"The "Posing" series did grow out of the previous "Hide and Seek" series that focused on the questions of one's attempt to hide their intellectual honesty in order to seek out a newly designed image... a "Poser" tsunami of posturing between who was being real, and who was obviously pretending to be real, often with the intent to deceive, could no longer be ignored." - Tom Everhart
