ABOUT THE IMAGE: This is a limited edition of xerographic-line, hand-painted character cel set-ups featuring Walt Disney's beloved animated star, Mickey Mouse. This cel set-up, "Mickey's Milestones," represents Mickey at eight stages of his film career: Steamboat Willie (1928), Thru the Mirror (1936), Magician Mickey (1937), Fantasia (1940), Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip (1940), Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947), The Mickey Mouse Club (1955), and Runaway Brain (1994).

A special remarque, screen-printed on the matte, adds a ninth stage to Mickey's film career as it depicts him in a moment from Mickey's Birthday Party (1942). Each matte was then hand-signed by legendary Disney animator Ward Kimball, to accompany the remarque which was based on his original animation from the 1942 classic short. Ward Kimball's signature pertains to the screen-printed remarque only. This special remarque was screen-printed on the mat by Team Art Studio of Gardena, California.

The Walt Disney Studios has recreated these character images using traditional animation techniques. The original animation drawings were transferred to acetate cels by a special six-step xerographic process. Artists of The Walt Disney Studio Ink and Paint Department then enhanced the cels with three hand-inked lines and hand painted each of the cels in the edition with 54 Disney-approved acrylic colors.

The background character sketches accompanying this cel were recreated by Disney artists utilizing original drawings and sketches from the films as reference. The resulting artwork has been lithographically printed on premium-quality, acid-free paper by Color Service of Monterey Park, California.

Published by Walt Disney Art Classics in 1998, the edition consists of a general edition of no more than 500, numbered 1/500 to 500/500, no more than 8 publisher's proofs, numbered PP 1/8 to PP 8/8, and no more than 15 hors de commerce, numbered HC 1/15 to HC 15/15. There are no signed cels; however, each mat is signed, near the screen-printed remarque, by legendary Disney animator, Ward Kimball. No additional multiples of this image, including proofs, have been produced in this or any other limited edition.
