Grumpy
MEDIUM: Original Production Drawing
IMAGE SIZE: 12" x 10"
PRODUCTION: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
YEAR: 1937
SKU: CCV4124
ABOUT THE IMAGE: Grumpy looks a bit like he's fallen under the spell of those feminine "wicked wiles" in this original animation drawing from Walt Disney's debut full-length animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Grumpy owes his whimsically quick-tempered personality in part to Disney Legend Bill Tytla (1904 - 1968) who played an essential role in ensuring he and the other Dwarfs each had a unique disposition. This moment can be spotted near the 1:07:45 timestamp shortly after Grumpy receives his forehead kiss from Snow as his expression begins to soften while storming off to work; Tytla also notably oversaw the animation of this scene. Grumpy has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil to a full-figured image area of 6.5" x 4.75" including his shadow on a sheet of 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Three of the corners are marked including the initial M (likely for an uncredited assistant animator), number 71, and a studio stamp bearing the production code 2001 10A 25; the remaining corner is stamped 64 on the reverse side.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original Production Drawings are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-drawn by a studio artist.
